  • Mercury SSGRE (Solid-State Gain Reduction Element):
    • A groundbreaking addition, the Mercury SSGRE serves as a gain attenuator, ensuring a quieter and more flexible compression experience. All gain makeup post-SSGRE is handled by a single-ended tube gain makeup amplifier with a 12BH7 valve and a custom Cinemag output transformer.
  • Flexible Feature Set:
    • The Mercury 666 addresses the limitations of the original Fairchild 666 by providing a wealth of modern features. It includes compression control, compression release, gain control, input level adjustment, and "auto-ten" functions for threshold and release, making it a versatile and indispensable tool in the studio.
  • Link Switch with LED:
    • While the Mercury 666 is a mono unit, it can be linked for stereo applications using the Link Switch. When engaged, it allows two Mercury 666 units to be stereo linked via a 1/4” cable, opening up possibilities for two-bus compression.
  • Meter Controls:
    • The Zero Control simplifies meter zeroing, offering a user-friendly alternative to vintage units. The Meter Select Switch allows you to monitor either gain reduction or the output level.
  • Threshold and Attack/Release Control:
    • With an 11-position Threshold Control and a rotary Attack/Release Switch, the Mercury 666 provides precise control over compression parameters. The expanded attack/release settings (7-11) enhance flexibility beyond the original design.
  • Output Gain Control and DC Adjust:
    • The Output Gain Control determines the amount of makeup gain, while the DC Adjust allows for control over the starting point of compression. This feature, similar to a Knee Control, offers a variable swing for tailored compression response.
  • Side Chain Filter and Insert On/Off:
    • The Side Chain Filter Switch offers three settings (Off, 90Hz, 150Hz) to filter out low-end frequencies. The Insert On/Off Switch manages the side chain insert, enhancing control over the inserted signal.
  • Baxandall EQ:
    • The Mercury 666 includes a two-band Baxandall EQ (Low and High), allowing for +/- control over bass and treble frequencies. The EQ section provides extensive tonal shaping capabilities for a customized sound.
  • Bypass On/Off and Mix Control:
    • The Bypass On/Off Switch, with an accompanying LED, enables listening directly to the source. The Mix Control facilitates blending between the compressed and dry signals, offering a range of wet/dry mix options.
  • Global Compatibility and Stereo Linking:
