- Versatile Preamp Section:
- The Rooster 2's preamp section adds gain to mic, line, or DI input signals, featuring a double triode input valve (12AX7) after the balancing input transformer for a smooth gain stage.
- Phantom Power Compatibility:
- Apply 48 volts of phantom power to mics using the special toggle switch, catering to a variety of recording setups. The DI input provides a high-impedance unbalanced input by bypassing the transformer.
- 'Attitude' Distortion Control:
- The 'Attitude' section allows precise control over the distortion produced by the 5654 valve, offering a warm 'valvey' sound. Distortion remains below 0.1% at low Attitude settings, providing musical harmonics as the setting increases.
- Harmonic Diversity:
- Similar to the Culture Vulture, the Rooster 2 produces predominantly 2nd order harmonics in 'Triode' mode and 3rd order harmonics in 'Pentode' mode, offering creative tone and dynamics control over the input signal.
- Musical EQ Section:
- Bass Lift:
- Provides continuous control over bass using a unique 'varislope' curve peaking at 60Hz.
- Mid/High Lift:
- Offers a bell-type curve with variable gain peaking at either 2.5KHz/4KHz or a 'varislope' curve at 12KHz, selectable by the frequency switch.
- Mid Cut:
- Controls a bell-type curve centered at 700Hz with continuous control over the amount of cut.
- Bass Cut:
- Switched control with 5 positions, interacting with other EQ controls for flexible frequency range control.
- Low Pass Filter (LPF):
- The LPF switch allows cutting high frequencies at a suitable frequency to prevent harsh harmonics from standing out during excessive distortion, ensuring a smooth sound.
- Output Level Control:
- Adjusts the signal to the PCF 80 output valve, balanced by a Sowter custom-made transformer, with a 3 LED display indicating the output signal level.
